Law and HR, done differently.

Employment Rights Bill phased roadmap revealed

The government has now published its forecasted timeline for provisions of the Bill to come into effect.

Notably, the implementation of protection from unfair dismissal as a day one right has been pushed back until 2027 to allow for further consultations.

However, measures that are likely to take place in April 2026 include:

– ‘Day one’ paternity leave
– Statutory Sick Pay changes
– Doubling the maximum protective award for collective redundancies

Measures due to take place in October 2026 include:

– Extending Employment Tribunal time limits
– Requiring employers to take “all reasonable steps” to prevent sexual harassment of their employees
– Restricting ‘fire and re-hire’ practices

More details to follow.
