    Peach Law granted SRA waiver!

    As a local forward thinking legal and HR consultancy business and BBC go to for employment law commentary, Peach Law Limited is one of the first companies of its type to be granted a waiver by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) through their Innovation Space which will allow our solicitors to provide a fuller range of legal services to our clients.

    Being granted the waiver will enable our clients to benefit from more cost-effective, quality advice from our in-house Employment Solicitors without the need to outsource to a law firm. To be granted the waiver we were required to demonstrate how our clients would benefit, that it would improve access to justice and was a sufficiently different way of offering legal services in addition to ensuring that granting the application would be compatible with the regulatory objectives.

    Lindsey Bell, Managing Director of Peach Law Limited said “We are excited that we are one of the few that have been granted the waiver and providing clients with a truly alternative solution to their employment law needs, reducing cost and improving access to quality advice. This also enables Peach to recruit the very best legal talent!”

    We have a great reputation as being a different solution for those looking for HR and Employment Law advice in the market place. In offering a holistic HR and Legal service, clients benefit from our commercial advice covering all employee issues together with on-site HR assistance. We are not a regulated law firm charging clients high hourly rates, nor are we a low cost call centre business, but sit between the two, providing good quality advice by qualified professionals on a monthly retained basis if required. The waiver will only enhance our unique reputation!

    Government proposes extending redundancy protection for women and new parents!

    Following on from Matthew Taylor’s review of modern working practices, the Government have undertaken a review of pregnancy and maternity discrimination and published a consultation paper in which responses are required by 5 April 2019.

    Currently women are protected during redundancy whilst on maternity leave and they must be given priority over other redundant employees when the employer offers suitable alternative employment.

    The proposals are to extend this right to;
    • Women who have returned from maternity leave in the previous 6 months,
    • Women who have told their employer that they are pregnant,
    • Those on adoption leave, shared parental leave and longer periods of parental leave.

    The consultation paper also propose that the three month limit for bringing a claim in pregnancy and maternity discrimination cases should be extended to 6 months.
